The 8th Global Green Economy Summit begins on Wednesday

The two-day summit is held at the Dubai World Trade Center

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Governor of Dubai, the 8th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will start on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 with the participation of several prominent climate action leaders, ministers and officials from all sectors of green economy and sustainable development from around the world. The WGES is organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) and the Supreme Energy Council of Dubai on the theme “Leadership of climate action by the collaboration: the roadmap to Net-Zero”. It coincides with the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Show (WETEX) and the Dubai Solar Show (DSS), which DEWA is organizing from September 27 to 29, 2022 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Al Tayer highlighted the importance of this edition of the Global Green Economy Summit, as the presence of the Middle East continues to grow the global sustainability agenda through effective climate change adaptation strategies and to combat its harmful effects. Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are gearing up to host COP27 and COP28 of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The 8th Global Green Economy Summit will focus on four main themes: energy, finance, food security and youth. It will include a ministerial round table with around 25 ministers from around the world. It will also host the MENA 2022 Regional Youth Conference (RCOY). Over 150 young people from across the region are attending the conference, in addition to 30 expert, specialist and VIP speakers. During the 2nd day of WGES 2022, the winners of the 4th Emirates Energy Award will be awarded. The award is organized by the Supreme Energy Council of Dubai under the theme “Inspiring Innovation for Sustainable Energy”.
