1. Honda City hybrid

Expected starting price – Rs. 16 lakh

Honda Cars India will launch the City hybrid in India around mid-2022. It will be identical to the classic City sedan (new generation model), but will be powered by a 1.5-liter NA petrol engine (98 hp), coupled to an electric motor (109 hp). It would be the first mass-market powerful hybrid car to go on sale in our market, and with an expected fuel consumption of 20 kmpl, it will also likely be the most economical sedan in India.

2. Mahindra eXUV300 (or XUV400)

Expected starting price – Rs. 16 lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra are expected to introduce the electric version of the XUV300 in India in the near future, likely towards the end of 2022 or early 2023. It is supposed to be named eXUV300 or XUV400, and it will likely be offered in two variants, powered by 350V powertrains. and 380V. The 350V version will be a rival to the Tata Nexon EV, while the 380V version will compete with the Hyundai Kona EV and the MG ZS EV.

3. New Hyundai Elantra

Expected starting price – Rs. 16 lakh

Hyundai last year globally unveiled the new generation of Elantra, but the updated version has yet to hit the Indian market. The new generation version sports a more aggressive and eye-catching design, and it also has a lot more equipment. We expect the next-gen Hyundai Elantra to launch in India within the next year, and it could benefit from electrified powertrain options as well.

4. Skoda Kushaq Monte-Carlo

Expected starting price – Rs. 19 lakh

Although not a new model per se, the “Monte Carlo” edition of the Skoda Kushaq deserves to be noticed. It will be the premium version of the SUV, and as a result, it will benefit from more premium features than the existing variants (panoramic sunroof, digital dashboard, expected updated headliner). It should be available with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine (150bhp / 250Nm), likely with 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearbox options.

5. Kia Carens

Expected starting price: Rs. 15 lakh

Kia is set to launch the Carens in the Indian market on January 14. The MPV will be available with three engine options – a 1.5 L NA petrol unit (115 PS / 144 Nm), a 1.4 L turbo petrol unit (140 PS / 242 Nm) and a 1 turbo diesel unit, 5 L (115 PS / 250 Nm). Transmission choices here will include a 6-speed manual, 7-speed DCT, and 6-speed torque converter automatic, depending on the variant chosen.

6. Maruti Vitara

Expected starting price: Rs. 10 lakh

Maruti Suzuki is working on a mid-size SUV for the Indian market, replacing the S-Cross. According to speculation, this new model will be named “Vitara”, and it is developed in partnership with Toyota. It is expected to be supported by the DNGA platform and will derive its power from an electrified 1.5L NA gasoline engine.

7. New Toyota mid-size SUV

Expected starting price: Rs. 11 lakh

Toyota will also launch the mid-size SUV it is developing with Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market. It will have a similar styling to the Maruti version, with some minor differences in styling. It will be mechanically identical to the next Maruti mid-size SUV, powered by the same 1.5L NA petrol powertrain (with mild hybrid, hybrid or plug-in hybrid system).

8. New Honda mid-size SUV

Expected starting price: Rs. 11 lakh

Honda also plans to enter the mid-size SUV segment in the Indian market very soon. Its upcoming offering is expected to be based on the “RS” concept, which was presented at GIIAS 2021. The SUV will be based on the same platform as the new generation of Honda City and will likely get the same 1.5 L NA gasoline. and 1.5L turbo-diesel engine options.

9. Tata Blackbird

Tata Motors plans to add a mid-size SUV rivaling the Creta to its lineup in India. This new SUV will be based on a modified version of Nexon’s platform. 10. Next Generation Mahindra Scorpion

Mahindra & Mahindra will finally launch the next generation Scorpio in the Indian market this year. The new model will go on sale alongside the current generation model and will be bigger and better equipped than it. The automaker will likely offer two engine options on the next-gen Scorpio – a 2.0L turbo-gasoline and a 2.2L turbo-diesel.
