Arsenal ‘in talks’ over Leicester City transfer as hit claims made

Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Youri Tielemans’ agent over a potential transfer for the Leicester City star.

According to website Goal, Gunners representatives have spoken to the player’s entourage at their London Colney base.

Tielemans is out of contract with City next summer and if he fails to agree a new deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side, the Belgian could leave at the end of the season.

For the next end-of-season window, City could get a transfer fee for the 24-year-old given his contract expires in 18 months.

Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move away from City recently, with Liverpool credited with an interest in the former AS Monaco player.

City signed Tielemans for £40m from AS Monaco in 2019 after a successful loan spell at the King Power Stadium, but his value is falling due to his contract status.

Tielemans, who City have offered a new contract with Rodgers keen to keep the FA Cup winner, is unlikely to leave the club this month.

The summer will be key for City and the player because that’s when the clubs will show their hands and give him a decision to make.

Tielemans was asked by broadcaster Sky Sports in October and said: There really isn’t an update. I am open to everything.

“The transfer market has just closed. I just try to keep as many options as possible.

“As long as I’m here, I’m going to give everything to the club, I’ve done it before, but I’m going to give even more.

“The contract situation is just something that happens in football. It’s just a normal situation. Talks are going on. I’m not saying I’m going to sign, but I’m not saying I’m not going to sign. ”

Rodgers has put his cards on the table, with the former Liverpool manager keen for Tielemans to commit his future to City.

“He’s an exceptional young professional,” Rodgers said.

“I would like him to re-sign here and extend his time. He’s a fantastic player and for such a professional and focused young man, it’s a real pleasure to work with him.”

“Hopefully we can work something out about this in the future.”
