Arsenal could drop Leicester City transfer for Steven Gerrard starlet

Leicester City could be granted a transfer reprieve amid reports that Arsenal have had the chance to sign Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa.

Arsenal had a good start to the transfer window by signing Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira; Gabriel Jesus is also set to move to Manchester City’s Emirates Stadium.

Foxes star Youri Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal all summer, but the Gunners could soon start exploring other midfield options if they can’t sort things out. Reinforcements up front are now seen as Arsenal’s priority and interest in the Leicester ace has apparently cooled.

Tielemans, 25, has a year left on his contract but Mikel Arteta’s recruitment staff are considering a move for 18-year-old Aston Villa starlet Chukwuemeka, according to talkSPORT. The teenager is in a similar position to Tielemans, with just 12 months left on his contract at Villa Park, but Steven Gerrard is desperate to secure the services of one of his brightest young talents.

Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in Chukwuemeka, with the report adding Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as potential suitors for the 18-year-old.

Tielemans has been with City since he was originally loaned out by Monaco in January 2019. He made the move permanent six months later and wrote himself in the club’s history books in 2021 by scoring the club’s first-ever goal. club in the FA Cup against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. .

The possibility of Tielemans signing a new contract with Leicester City remains open. Contrasting reports have discussed what is likely to happen, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says signing a new contract ‘could be an option’ later in the year if he doesn’t quit King Power Stadium.
